Del Worsham among record number of racers pre-entered for DragRacingOnline.com AA/FC Challenge at Cordova
(DragRacingOnline.com) The Mickey Thompson Tires DragRacingOnline.com AA/FC Challenge presented by Comp Cams and Victory Performance will bring a series record number of cars to Cordova Dragway Park on Aug. 24-25. The AA Funny Cars race only on Friday and Saturday, while other classes and special attractions will continue on Sunday, Aug. 26, during 59th annual World Series of Drag Racing at the historic Cordova track.
Nineteen of the 230-mph cars have pre-entered for the eight-car field, and the number could increase.
“It’s open competition,” explained series administrator Jeff Burk, editor of DragRacingOnline.com, “so anyone else could show up to take on our great lineup of racers on the quarter mile. The World Series is very special and the racers really want to win this one!”
The racers and cars pre-entered for the third event on the 2012 DRO AA/FC Challenge schedule are Anthony Bronge in the “Punisher” Camaro; Brian Stewart in the “Bear Town Shaker” Mustang; Barrie “Bazz” Young in the “Down-Under Thunder” Camaro; Del Worsham in the Worsham Racing Plymouth Arrow; Chad Head in the Head Racing Firebird; Ronny Young in the “Blue Max” Plymouth Arrow; 2011 DRO series champion John Hale in the Mike Burkhart tribute Camaro; Joe Haas in Frank Ousley’s “Crop Duster” Cuda; 2012 IHRA Nitro Jam champion Peter Gallen in the “Poverty Stricken” Chevrolet Monza; Randy Baker in the “Sin City” Corvette; Troy Ray in the “Wild Side” Charger; Marc White in the “Flashback” Trans Am; John “Bodie” Smith in the Texas “Jungle Jim” Vega; Mike Lewis in the “Brand X” Mustang; Mike Savage in Jim Broome’s Candies & Hughes “Cajun Cuda”; Shawn Bowen in the “Violator” Firebird; Troy Martin in the “Chi-town Hustler”; and Brad Thompson in Mike Stallings’ “Wheel Vintiques” Nova.
Del Worsham was the 2011 NHRA Top Fuel champion and this year he is crew chief of Alexis DeJoria’s nitro Funny Car. He will return to the driver's seat at Cordova in his family’s AA/FC put together with his father, Chuck Worsham. "I'm going to need to lose a few pounds to fit in my car," Worsham says. "Need to get back to driving weight!"
